Personal Information of University of Hawaii Students Posted Online for Almost a Year

December 1, 2010

University of Hawaii students are just not being notified that their personal information, including names, academic performance, and other sensitive information was available through a simple Google search for almost a year.

Apparently, a retired faculty member had thought they were uploading the data to a secured server, only for it to be found some 11 months later to be publicly accessible to anyone with internet access.

The information has been removed, and Google has removed the webpage from their cache as well. In the meantime, for anyone worried about their personal information, they are strongly advised to closely monitor financial and educational accounts and perhaps find the best credit monitoring service to keep track of suspicious or unusual activities on their credit accounts.
